Spring AP exam registration just opened last week, and students are already eager to sign up. However, the CollegeBoard is making several changes to its AP exams that may prompt different registration decisions this semester.
New Classes
Starting next year, CollegeBoard will offer the new AP classes of AP Business and AP Cybersecurity. The latter will be added to the KMHS curriculum in the 2026-2027 school year, and it will be synonymous with a Computer Science elective. These classes are part of the test run for the AP Career Skills series, which will be a set of new AP courses dedicated to improving students’ career skills. Updates to Old Classes
The AP Statistics course will be streamlined to 5 units instead of 9. Previous units about analyzing and collecting data will be combined, and so will units about probability. Proportion inferences and mean inferences will each receive their own unit. Finally, the fifth unit will be about regression analysis. These changes will also reflect the new focus of the MCQ section – which will be longer, but with fewer answer choices – and FRQ section – which will be shorter, causing each question to be worth more points. Further details can be found here and here.
Moreover, all language AP exams – except AP Latin and AP Spanish Literature and Culture – will be made fully digital, with many of the previous FRQs being changed to make them more naturalized. In addition, these exams will also require a course project, which will be completed throughout the duration of the course and presented during the exam.
