The Foolish Archer
Lahari Durga, 10th grade
Oh you young naïve child,
how many days since you smiled?
Heart made of glass, and your mind ablaze,
Tears layer your eyes with a gloomy glaze.
As you lay in your garden and have a rest,
Can’t help but think how you’ve been woefully blessed.
Standing aside was a nice little lad,
Oh what a wonderful smile he had!
His laughter glistening, sweet as honey,
No wonder you suddenly felt so free.
Slowly a smile crept upon your face,
Journeying into this magical place.
He’s got you ever so trapped in a trance,
Made you feel happy and wanting to dance.
Little did you know this boy was sick to the head,
He picked up a dropped weapon and said,
“I wonder what this thing could do”
As he pulled back and got set,
He didn’t know where his target met.
Misused the bow and set the arrow astray,
With a swoosh you breathed the last of today.
He shattered your heart,
Set your smile apart.
Blood splattered over the garden,
Stupid boy never begged for pardon.
As your soul departs to the land above,
Poor child you shouldn’t have fallen in love.
For this foolish archer didn’t understand,
All you ever needed was a loving hand.
