Canada elected a new leader for the first time in almost ten years. Justin Trudeau has become the new Prime Minister of Canada, giving the Liberal Party a majority in their house. The purpose of Prime Minister is to head the government and use their executive powers to propose bills, much like the president. Before Trudeau, the conservative party lead as the majority in the house for ten years, but the people decided for change. Trudeau’s victory swept 184 of 338, beating out the old prime minister.

Trudeau is the son of Pierre Trudeau who had a huge influence on Canadian politics, updating laws on divorce, gay marriage, and abortion. Justin Trudeau grew up in the house of the prime minister and has been accredited ever since he was young as being the “future prime minister of Canada.”He’s the son of a liberal and has adopted that quality as well. Canada is in for some huge changes in the next few months, maybe for the better.
