KMHS NJROTC

Over the summer our NJROTC program sent four lucky cadets to Navy’s prestigious JROTC “Leadership Academy” at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville GA.  Selected for this demanding academy included the KMHS Commanding Officer, c/LCDR John Erskine, Executive Officer, c/LT Nathan Checkwood, Operations Officer, c/LTJG Jalen Tatum and the unit’s Supply Officer, c/SCPO Samuel Alford. The week long course of study included testing their knowledge, drill, and physical fitness as well as honing their leadership skills. At graduation the cadets were presented with their unique silver cords designating them as graduates of this program

“It was more like a boot camp than summer camp, but towards the end it was fun. It taught me a lot of leadership and how to deal with different types of people. If I had my way I would go back any day.” Says Jalen Tatum. Samuel Alford says, “It was definitely an experience.” They took the week of June 6-12 out of their summer to show other school what Kennesaw Mountain NJROTC can do and they ended up succeeding. All four of the cadets who went graduated from leadership academy and got their silver cords. Way to go guys!
